Why don't you accept responsibility, pay the fine, go to driving school, get the ticket removed from your record?

Did you really not have a working gauge cluster? If so, you will probably still have to pay some (there is a visible difference when going 60 vs. 40). If you were lieing I hope you get to pay the full thing and I want to know why the hell you were going that fast; I guess you were late to your UN Security Council meeting or something.

the point of the ".7" was probably so the cop could drill him with a criminal speeding ticket, since I believe 20+ is criminal and like 40+ is felony. i'm not sure though, since i've never gotten a ticket...

Let me rephrase this. I can pay the ticket, but dont want to because its 165.50 gone. I will talk to the judge, and the officer told me and even assured me a bit that since its my first, the judge will probbably waive the points and might even cut my penalty, if not remove it entirely. I will do this. Plead guilty, but say that "I was trying to fix a problem that was with the car. Since i was speeding its right for me to pay the fine, but I just dont want points on my insurance since its only my first incident."

But was there something, truthfully, wrong?

go to court, when the judge asked what you plead say no contest. when he asks you if you have anything to say go id like to thank you your honor and the court for their time. this is exactly what i was told to do and the ticket was waived and i didnt have to pay a dime. not saying that it will work for you, even though it just might, but the judge will prob figure out your an idiot and charge you double the fine

I'll have to be taking NewYorker's side here...that's something new. I have personally seen the ticket for the speed stated and know exactly where he got caught. He is not lieng. Moreover, this is a ticket, something that happens to everyone. Nearly everyone speeds occasionally. I know that I personally will be pulled over for speeding eventually.

As far as suggestions, I'd take it to court. I heard they usually let the first ticket go.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean a thing lol. I was once told by a Police officer, when he discovered I had no insurance (hey....I was young lol), that I'd only get 3points on my lisence....I received 8! Oooops. Just hope ya dont get Judge Judy lol.....I'll look forward to seeing ya on TV lol

Not when you are going 20 mph over the limit. You can (atleast in Texas) loose your license if you are going 20 mph over the limit. I wouldnt think they'd let this one go. Be honorable for once (remembering hit and run) and take some responsibility for your actions.

Here is what I will do
"Your honor I would like to plead guilty to speeding, and will be more than glad to pay the fine because I broke the law, but since I had a problem with my vehicle and was just going to fix it, I dont think that insurance points are in order"
In reality, there was nothing wrong with my speedometer, but I will say it was a blown fuse. In fact, just last night I had to take my moms car out because I really DID blow a fuse for my headlights. Will need to replace this today.
