V8 engine and disabling 4 cylinders on idle mode!?

Hi there,
I have a 1976 Buick Skylark with 350ci V8 engine and I love it. I would like to disable 4 cylinders of 8's on idle mode by setting 4 barriers into intake manifold and turn off the associated ignition ways to the cylinders. At the moment, I am doing feasibility study of the project. Could somebody please give me hints and tips about this issue? Any help is appreciated.

Best Regards,
Shahrum

Wow... I've only heard of things like this at the Detriot auto show. I will talk to my dad later about it, but I think it will be a nightmare to install. (Read: Special Computer). The new Camaro (If the would come out with it) had that sort of setup in it... Good luck, I'll let you know if I hear anything

Actually any dodge/chrysler/jeep with a hemi and a ton of benz's have that. It's called MDS - Multi-Displacement-System.

And GM calls it displacement on demand. If you honestly want it, buy an engine that has it and the associated electronic controllers.

its coming out in plenty of 8 cylinder vehicles from a nice few makers

I would imagine it would be hell putting that into an old engine,
i wouldnt recromend it at all,

it would actually be way cheaper to buy a whole other entire car for cruising around town in, (if your doing this for gas mileage, which id say you are)

like a little compact 4cyl-mobile
