Lightbulb Anyone know how to take frames from movies?

As the title says. I've been pondering this for quite some time and don't know how to do it. I've tried print screen while the dvd is in full screen and paused but that's a dead end. Does anyone know how to take a single frame from a dvd movie, and save it as a jpeg. If that can be done, I'm sure making gif's won't be much harder.

There's programs that convert DVD (VOB) files to AVI's and MPEG's, but I can't find any right now...not sure about this, but I'm pretty sure DVD Shrink can do that

Snagit will do what your looking for. Get a free 30 day trial, or be creative and download elsewhere, or just get a crack for the trial. Of course I didn't just say that

I'm curious. Couldn't you just ctrl+print screen, then copy paste into word or some other document and save as .jpg? Maybe I'm thinking too simplistic and it can't be done....

That program works, although for reason the screens I took aren't full size and seem distorted.

technically you should be able to just hit "print screen" which would capture a screenshot to the clipboard, allowing him to paste it into paint or photoshop. I've done it myself with DVDs....and it's kind of creepy....pasting it into photoshop, the image still moves....

I tried it, and it just gives me a black screen...it's odd because I'll play the video, press "print screen" and then paste it in PS, but I get this (attachment)...It's happenned before too, when there was the desktop wars thing, and I wanted a visualizer as my background

Anyone else have this problem/know how to fix it? lol

I've already tried that, but for some reason whenever I close the dvd window (after saving the screen asa jpeg), when I open back up the jpeg, I get a black screen.

I'll give those programs a shot tomorrow (kinda intoxicated right now).

Anyways, to do what you are asking, first take the DVD and Rip it using DVDShrink or DVDdecrypter Then take the VOB file and use one of tyhe following programs:

DVD to AVi
DGIndex
Or my Fav. Virtual Dub

Here is a pic from the Movie "the Island" ( ihad a gif image of the mopvie going, but it is too large to host)

I kinda like the high res. and color you got with Virtual Dub. If it lets me takes pics as well as make gifs I think I'll download that as well as DVD shrink. The only prob. I see is that A.) this POS laptop is slow as hell, and B.) This POS laptop is running out of memory...fast. Well see. I'm gonna get on the good ol' mule and see if I can find those programs.

BTW...SNagit didn't work for me.
