The engine thread!

this thread is about engines,
more specifically good engines, and what engines we think are best/crazy/efficient/cool looking/whatever else,

and also, what are some engines that break the 100hp per litre mark?
naturally aspirated

1.renesis rotary engine, (RX-8)
2.i think the bmw 5 litre v10 and gallardo v10
3.bugatti veyron engine, has 4 turbos but still pretty nuts

what does everyone think?

Honda's V-tec unit is one of the most powerfull 1600cc units available, and breaks the 100bhp per litre benchmak I believe....only just though lol as it's output is 167bhp I think....as far as I'm aware, the only other engine of this size that's this powerfull is the 1600cc unit in Mitsubishi's Colt/Mirage, but this engine had reliability problems if memory serves me!

But yeah, the Honda V-tec engine is one of my favourites. I dont think Honda's ever had any problems with them either!

ive never had any experience with v-tec's
but if its anything like what the lotus exige has,
one cam for economy and one for power and the power cam kicks in at 6500rpm or somethin like that,

but yeah, forgot all about v-tec's

A mate of mine has just bought a Civic with the 1.6litre V-tec and I can confirm that it's one amazing motor. I think it bounces off the rev limiter at around 8000rpm!....Only problem he finds with it is that it runs at high revs at high speeds, thus making it a bit of a hard ride at anything over 70mph!

Post Whore lol

Fuel consumption isn't too bad as long as you drive it sensibly....and not at 90mph all day long lol. It tops out at about 125mph so you can imagine how high it's revving at that sort of speed!

Actually it's 177 lol

But 177/2.4=73.75 so it wouldn't be the highest by far...Most Hondas would be in the 100+hp/L category, but here's some I remember from a while ago...after a buttload of searching, here's what I found:

Honda S2000 2.0L ~ 240HP = 120HP/L
BMW M3 3.2L ~ 360HP = 113HP/L
Ferrari 360 3.6L ~ 400HP = 111HP/L
Honda Integra Type R 1.8L ~ 190hp = 105HP/L

BTW is there an engine size (litres) limit?

I think it was disproven though, because...well here's a rant I had in another thread (nobody search, I can't not un-guarantee it wasn't vwhobo )

I hate to rain on everyones party, but... Read the specifications and description closely. There are too many holes in them to make this car anything more than a dream. I have no doubt a car like this exists, but I'll gaurantee the performance specs are estimated at best. For example, acceleration from "0-200 km/h in 4.9 sec" most likely couldn't happen on those tires and certainly couldn't happen without a wheelie bar. For those of you who can't convert, that means they're saying it will get to 120 mph in the same time it takes a Viper or Z06 to get to 60 mph. Think about it.
The carburetors are obviously single pump Holley 4150's with mechanical secondaries, probably 600 CFM rated. More importantly, Holley's are very particular about fuel pressure. It needs to be regulated down to no more than 6-6.5psi depending on your set-up. My point. Since that's the case, why do they say "The first turn of the key activates the gigantic high-pressure fuel pump"? Because they're talking smack, a high pressure pump would make the engine run like shit.

good points,

i figured it was exagerated somewhat, but ive seen stuff similiar to this before
id guess 0-60 in 3.5 seconds or so just because of like you said the tires and its very old too, (unless frame and all that stuff is modernized)

id still drive it

edit--i just noticed it says redline 8000prm, yeah right!
