Cadillac engine in a Pontiac?

Don't laugh at me for asking this, but would a 1971 cadillac 472ci engine fit in a 1976 firebird formula in place of its original 400ci engine? I know some engines are interchangeable but I honestly have no clue about this one.

You can make it fit, but it's nowhere near a direct interchange.

Well, where could I learn how to make it fit? I don't have a lot of money, but I have a lot of time and would it simply be a matter of buying new engine mounts and putting them in place of the firebirds originals? Having an engine with 525 ft-lbs of torque would make me very very happy

If you want that why dont you just modify the engine you have?

It seems like this would be a lot cheaper.

The pontiac 400 has lots of potential and there are far more aftermarket parts available for it. Do it right; it would be a pain to install the Caddy engine, it has few parts available for it and your car would drop in value. If you really need a bigger motor, try a Pontiac 455.
