Hard start when cold. 92 Pontiac Sunbird

Hello. Please help if you can. 1992 Sunbird SE 3.1 litre V6 Auto. 80K miles

My wifes car is very hard to start first thing in the morning. It cranks, but won't fire up until either many, many tries, or, a shot of carb cleaner is injected in the intake.

If I do start it with a quick shot of carb cleaner it fires right up and runs pretty well until you turn it off. Then it will start fine after being warm, but runs pretty rough unless you really put the pedal to it (surging, bucking, almost stalling). Then the next morning it starts all over again.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. I can do the repair, just don't have the diagnostic tools or skills.
