Chevy 454->Ford diesel

My grandpa has an old motor home that he (guess what?) acually uses for travel. Its an old Winebego and had the chevy 454. He has rebuilt the engine twice because it burnt a hole in one of the pistons about 1/2-3/4 of an inch across. After the third time it burnt through, he went to a salvage yard and bought an '02 Ford Powerstroke. He got the engine and tranie in no problem, then the wireing started and he has never worked on any engine this complicated (electricaly) before. Well needless to say, he got stuck and was unable to get it running. He took it to a garage and they never realy did more than look at it. So he bought an older model (92 or so) w/out the turbo and all the electronics, but that engine turned out to have a crack in the block. So now he is getting pretty tired of failures and also getting discouraged. He has the money to do this but is just having the worst luck with engines.

just a post, not asking for help.
