Tornados Through Iowa

Tornados through Iowa.... who cares bunch of pigs and corn would get effected. Well living in Iowa City, I would have thought the same damn thing... I was wrong. Last night at ~ 9:30pm a twister came throught the heart of IC. I happen to be right in the path. I was at my gf and we actually were fortunate in serveral ways. One her building is ~100 years old, made of solid Brick. Two, our cars were sheltered by the building so the ping pong size hail did not do any damage. Three, our cars were parked 25ft south of where all the tree fell, her fellow tenants were not as lucky.

Yeah, it was a desructive storm, ripped trees 4 ft in diameter out of the ground and sent them on top of houses and cars. Some homes got knocked down but we should be fortunate it wasn't a huge tornado.

I felt like taking pictures, but that seems kind of morbid, I consider myself and her lucky and I would hate to be in the other situation so unfortunately no pics for anyone to look at.

By the way, that fright train sound is kind of cool..... Right before it hit, I was outside looking at the hail, heard the sound and told my gf to get in. She said the entire sky was the color of the Caribean Ocean, a brilliant green. Being color blind I'll take her word for it, but that sound of the tornado coming is really facinating(sp?).

Glad to know you're alright. Hopefully that will be the last storm you'll have to be in. I know I'm awaiting the 2006 season for canes. What fun.

That sucks, but at least you were pretty fortunate.

Here is another picture that was in the national news, St. patrick's Church:

The last one reminds me of the church in Call of Duty..... It was a sad day.

Damn man, that sucks. Glad to hear you made it through okay.

And yes, the sky turns into a wicked green and blue colour before tornados and plough winds, I've seen it happen a few times up here. Only had one tornado, and that was over a decade ago, dropped one granery over onto one of our augers, and picked up another one and threw it 100 feet into the scrap yard, where we left it haha. Also lost a ton of shingles, but next to that, nothing. Plough winds are more common, but we found the easy way to stop the chance of damage...
