1984 Caprice air conditioning type

Hi,
I know that air conditioning units have used a couple of different types of (gases?) over the years. What type would have originally came in a 1984 Chevy Caprice? Also, if I was taking it out for demo purposes, does it cause any type of harm to people, (like buring)?

no, gut all air conditioning units, heater cores, everything, all plastic and wires, you only need 2 wires, one will be coming off your distributor, the other will come off your battery solenoid. when your put your battery in your floorboard, run a hot wire from the battery and wire it threw a switch to your diist, that will give ya power to fire your plugs, now just take the wire from the starter and touch it to the hot wire on your battery/dist wire and she'll fire up. these are decent cars, but the assends suck bad cause the humps bend down easily and you will plow dirt, if ya need anymore tips get back with me and send me some rules.

heres a few pics of mine....

You go right ahead and vent that R-12 into the atmosphere if you want to help further deplete the ozone layer. You should try to inhale it all and tell us what happens.
