Unhappy Break dust left overs????

I have a break dust "crud" on the wheels of my VW Passat that I can't seem to get off the wheels. See the attached pic.
I've tried paint cleaner and a clay bar (which seems to work best but takes forever) but my success has been minimal.
Is there a way to get this "baked on" mess off my wheels?????

Have you tried Alloy Wheel cleaner? you can get it from most Auto Factor shops

At work, the wash boys have this really strong acid stuff that they sometimes use. It hurts your lungs if you inhale it. I don't know how available it is though.
