scan check

hi,i am trying to check my kids 93 escort 1.9 litre engine with my MD1000 Pro Scan Plus scanner.i have to use the cig.lighter for power.i dont get a link to the computer.for some reason it cannot find the comp.when i put the tool on my sons 93 crown vic theres no problem.also when you turn the key off it shuts the lighter of so test cant be done with no power.do i need to hook it up to the battery somehow?thanks.

to my understanding the cigaretter lighter should be hot all the time. plug the cigarette lighter part into another power source (another vehicle or jump box) and then check your codes in that fashion.

Have you tried it with the key turned only to the accessory position?

yes, hook it directly to the battery somehow. he's going to have to cycle the key between start and run at some point, and that may drop power to the lighter...
