Older M3 is the first that comes to mind.

LUXURY cars under 8 grand with manual transmissions?

Start looking at BMW 5 series. 525i, 528, 535i etc. Stay away from the pre '97 V8 models as the Nikasil engines are problem prone, unless the engine has already been replaced.

Not much else out there as a LUXURY car with manuals, as automatic transmissions have tradtionally been considered luxury items. So much so that most pure luxury cars ONLY come with automatics.

I prefer luxury cars with autos. All of mine have been so equipped (but then again, none of my luxury cars were avaiable with manuals, anyhow).

You're still a little vague. A luxury car that doesn't have to be a luxury car, for under 8K, manual, and leather. I'm thinking Nissan Maxima, Pontiac Bonneville, Monte Carlo, Taurus SHO, Olds Aurora. I'm too lazy to check for sure, but these should be availible in leather w/ stick. Not sure if you'll find a newer Aurora for under 8K though.

You can find 95 M3s, the better looking ones, for 12.5k, I'm sure you can find those for 8k

No, the only E30 M3 you can find for $8k is a beat up, high mileage example needing a lot of (expensive) work. There were fewer of them than the E36 M3, and are more "unique." thus valued at more money. The average for an E30 M3 is closer to $14k.

There are two on there under $10k. One has rust, the other has no listed miles, but has scuffs and dents. Most of them you go look at at the low end are thrashed on, even though they photograph nice. Trust me, I've looked at a lot, trying to get one under $10k.

Well, considering what you want from a car, BMW is about your only choice. I'd be willing to bet, however, that pretty much anything would be shot down for some reason or another.

But, here goes. Another suggestion from my file of favorites, and available in excellent shape for well under $8k, is this:

'99-2000 SVT Contour. Leather, luxury features, speed, outstanding handling, only available with a manual trans, a magazine favorite, and usually around $5k. I prefer the '99 over the '98 due to the color palete, and the fact that the '98 ONLY had the dark blue interior regardless of exterior color. The 2000 is the same as the '99.

Make sure that the water pump has been replaced, and if it hasn't get the upgraded metal impeller type. Cheap insurance for longetivity.
