ok I've only encountered this once, but if thats how they do it every time I recommened it to everyone.

the story...ok were driving to my car and its in an open parking lot, my friend is weaving in and out of the palm trees and he thinks he can cut the parking lot (hes new to the area and doesn't know there is an island in the middle) so hes going about 50 and he starts to go towards the island and I start to say something then he slams his breaks and we hit it. The airbags go off and within 5 seconds or less all you hear is a voice asking us if we are ok and telling us the location of the vehicle. They stayed with us and called a tow truck and they were very helpful. Way to go onstar you rule

Don't have it, but after reading this, I want it.

I think he means it's a safe feature. Would you rather have it or not have it? ...Even if you don't plan on getting into an accident, what about if you get lost, or your car breaks down?

^^Appears to have some pretty handy features, browsing their website.

Edit: With all those features it's about $400 a year

Edit again: minus these three features its about $200>>

Untill seeing this thread I'd never heard of it....I seem to remember reading something about a similar device recently though. It seems like a great piece of kit, wouldn't suprise me if it became standard on most cars in a few years to come, hopefully not as costly though...although spread over 10-12 months $200-$400 isn't that excessive I guess!
