I'd say a Toyota Tundra, or a Chevy Avalanche, but I'm not sure about how reliable they are...

Have you considered a Dodge, they have tons of power in the V8 and have good off roading capabilities

you could find a old wrangler for under $2500 pretty easy.

I like jeep wranglers, maybe not as much power as you'd like, but they seem like they'd just be fun to drive because of their size and agility.

Well i personally think the older Blazers are good. You could always get a Jeep Wagoneer or w/e (like the one they did up on 'Trucks' (Spike TV) the past 2 weeks), already got 4 wheel drive and everything else. If you want newer, a lot of people (around here anyways) use either 1973-85 Chevy's or the late '80's early '90's Toyotas. Are you wanting it to already be raised or will you do that yourself?

Go for an older XE 4x4 V6 King Cab Nissan Hardbody. Cheap, easy to find parts for and a great off-roader. You should be able to pickup a ~95ish one with about 110k-150k miles for $3k-$4k.

Give it a 3" Body Lift -> http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...0 c672c009483

And a 4" full suspension lift -> http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/... 0c672c009483

And then give it some good 35" tall tires of your choice.
Perfect off-roader.

Check out this one, 3" Body Lift, 3" Suspension Lift and 35" tall tires.

bTW - It's an 86.5 Hardbody.

Jeep is really good, they can take a beating. You could always get an older 6 cylinder Jeep and swap it out for a 360 or something and that thing will have some go.
