Petrol

HI every one, just wanting to know if this is a world wide thing or in australia we are just being taken advantage of, In australia at the moment we are paying upwards of $1.55 a LITRE for 98 octane petrol, (FYI one gallon roughly works out to be 3 litres) and it australia the quality of petrol is quite poor, the only explaination for this is the world oil prices, why oil companies are making huge record profits, just interested if there has been a major jump in the USA, british or any other companies prices, because i feel seriously screwed over

1 US gallon =~ 3.79 litres

Don't forget that the Govt take from various direct and indirect taxes is nearly half that.

It's A$1.25 = US$0.94 where I live at the moment so about US$3.56/gallon

standard unleaded today i saw for A$1.32 and that is early in the week when it is cheap, i filled up on on mobil's 8000 stuff which is suppose to be the best you can get at A$1.49 today total ripe off especially when you consider in my car i need to add a bottle of octane booster to prevent detonation, it just doesn't seem fair any more, I think i need to get a smaller or at least a more fuel efficent car, those twin turbos really hurt me

I sympathise, over here the average price of petrol is 98.9p per litre, and there's about 4.5-litres to our gallon!

Well for our lowest (I think it's 86 octane), it's about .90$ a litre.. and for our highest (91 octane is the best they sell here), it's about $1.05-1.10 a litre..

the highest octane we get apart from race fuels is 98 octane they are starting to introduce ethanol into our petrols as well but i don't like the idea of putting that crap into my engine,

could you imagine a nuclear powered car, that would be fun, so over all you guys are paying less then 20c a letre and we are paying $1.50, i think we are getting hugely ripped off over here

LPG is half of what petrol costs and has a high octane number although it cost a fair bit to get your car converted. Also biodiesel is another possibility and you can make it yourself.
