What is the BEST street racing car?

OK, directly to the point, what is the best street racing car to buy, and that doesn't require to buy a new engine and so on?

Hmm well that question is so vague you'll get every owner type who will say they're brand of car is best... But your restriction on not swaping motors... hmmm

Well Just about any classic domestic can be turned into a boulevard bruiser with just a few bolt ons, including the newer F-Body LT-1s and LS-1s.

Most imports also have a good engine to base off of, Hondas can be made decently quick with bolt-ons. Turbos and Superchargers are popular. I guess it just narrows down to what your prefferences are. Im sure whatever that is somebody here can help you with your choice.

Honda's are easy to fix up and have a huge collection of nice little parts as well. You didn't put many restrictions on here, I was guessing typical street racing cars, not supercars or anything. Maybe a 'Teg GSR to start out with.

If you don't mean typical, but still street racers, I'm going to say Skyline (GTR). Cuz those are insane and they're like the street machine all the civics, maximas and 'tegs want to be when they grow up.

Cyprus, in all seriousness, how do you argue Hondas are the best cars for street racing when you can't swap engines?

I'd say go for a 1970 Copo Nova... Lightweight, big block, can't really go wrong... Maybe a 69 Mach 1 Mustang, same deal, but a little heavier.

If you're not willing to consider classic cars, or you're one of those people who won't consider anything that's not Japanese , go with a RX7 Turbo II, you can get about as much power as you can put down on street tires.

Something I've been looking at is the Thunderbird Super Coupe. Very heavy at 3900 lbs, but it comes stock with a forged crank, and rods. The 94/95 models made 230hp, and 330ftlbs. On the stock crank, these things can make 400hp, 500ftlbs, and push a T-bird into the 12s. They get good gas mileage on the highway, and are comfy as hell. They also have a good independent rear suspension, so they are quite capable of good handling as well, despite their heavy curb weight.

Hmm If american i agree with redneck on the Ls1/Lt1. If japanese I'd say go for an older Supra (MKIII) turbo.

CBass how different is the previous generation of supercoupe (the ? to 93's) from the 94/95s? I'm considering that generation and ditching my 3.8 because I think the 94 and up supercoupes would be too expensive.

I'd have to say a Buick T-Type. GN's are good but to easy to ID. Plus T-Types are a little cheaper. Can't beat the quiet v-6 turbo

What about the new Nissan 350Z?

How would the 350Z stack up against Supra, Lancer, RX7? I have Sega Rally for XBox and it seems to me that the 350Z kicks some serious ass but Supra GT handled better. lol :?

Honda are show cars. Not fast cars.

Import a s15 silvia from japan. There about as quick as a Jap supra down the 1/4. Just as easy to modify too and cheaper to modify

DSM

Pricewise, you really can't go wrong with a GEN1 AWD DSM (Eclipse,Talon,Laser). They can go really quick with minimal cash outlay, and with $1000 in mods will whup any Honda with much more spent in mods.

Beware though, if you do go DSM, be prepared for maintenance. They are high maintenance, but are very good bang for the buck. That is my experience only.

Go the S15

I second STOCK's comments about the S15.

Gotta love the drift machine. Awesome power for little cash mods.

street racing hey,

AWD would be sweet to get the jump ----->DSM, or even a GMC syclone/typhoon, a bad ass 4wd light truck with a very tunable V6 turbo.

But for me it's an 89 daytona shelby b/c that's what I drive, and am extremely biased lol . For under $1000 bucks in parts you can have yourself a 12 sec street screamer. If anyone doubts me i'll tell ya how.

i think it's important to keep a little bit of a sleeper look. Instead of driving a skyline/supra where everybody thinks they will lose and then don't feel bad if they do. With a sleeper you can walk on the skyline/supra and then watch them go nuts b/c they have over 25000 (including car) into their supra and you only got 4000 and made them look stupid.

Some Supras and skyline are quick. But most aren't
Don't know why ya can't get a twin turbo viper to shame them all out
