1984 Mercury Grand Marquis Radio Problems

I have bought a c.d. player, new speakers for the back dash and the front doors. I used a factory plug kit for it and the speakers worked. I was unaware the car didint have speaker wires to the doors so I put some in. In the meantiem, the dash speakers and back speakers worked. As soon as I spliced in the door speakers, I had no sound. I then got frustrated and then just listened to it without the door speakers although the dash speakers are blown. So today I ran all new wire to every speaker except the dash ones, and ran a ground and a hot wire straight from the battery. Guess what. No sound. When I hooked it back up through the harness AGAIN, I had rear speakers and those damn dash speakers. There are no ground wires for the speakers on the car plugs on the car itsself, just hot ones. Please help.

newer radios do NOT ground the speakers. if you did you may have fried the amp for those speakers. Actually the only time I have seen a "floating" ground on a stereo system was over 20 years ago. And yes you can cook the front output without affecting the rears
