Lightbulb Slow pumping gas gets better milage????

When I pumped gas two weeks ago, it was really slow, it took along time for me to fill my take up, but I got over 40mpg with premium in my 2001 Elantra (standard). Is the gas pumping slow because the gas station tank is almost out?

Over 40 mpg in your Elantra because you ran premium gas? In a word bullsh*t. You need to figure out the PROPER way to measure fuel economy.

Aahh...This exact same thing was on Car Talk a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember why the car (Honda Civic I think) got such high mpg).

Did you do it during really cold weather?

I've definately broke the 40 mpg limit. Not because I ran premium gas, but maybe because I had an "bottom of the barrel gas", I hypothesize that the store was almost out of gas, so it was slow to pump, and I had an usual mixture. The octane rating is an average, that means it' possible to get more octane. That week, I drove only highway too, my fiancee visited me, so I only drove in town once that week for church.

I mostly drive on the highway. I get my worst gas in town and on the interstate. I average 34-36 but there has been at least one time where I got more gas. I always use premium, BP or Shell--the only name brand gas out this way.

I need all the fuel economy I can get. I drive 350+ miles per week.

I drive 2001 Hyundai Elantra, standard transmission. With 87 octane, I get 28-32 mpg.

It was cold for April, but not too cold for TN. I do notice that my engine seems more sluggish in the afternoon when it's warmer.
