buying 2003-2004 mustang Mach 1

im turning 16 in a few months and im buying my car before then, im going to get either a 2003 or 2004 mustang mach 1 auto transmission because driving stick after awhile gets annoying to me anyways, so i was wondering should i put a supercharger in it or should i just leave it stock, i mean it comes 305hp with 320lbs/ft torque, but i think i needs some kick to it so i was thinking a vortech supercharger kit with the intercooler, any suggestions????? the supercharger would kick it up to 484hp and 420lbs/ft torque

Yes with most aftermarket FI cars the auto tranny will need to be upgraded.

And that 305 hp will probably be more than you can handle and I thought the MAch 1s were like 340hp or something like that.

Im willing to bet you read about the Vortech Mach 1 in the back of a Motor Trend I remeber that Issue, and just so you know an Auto MAch1 isnt the best for FI. The crank isnt forged like the Manual cars are and while most think its the same as the Terminator motor, which is a great FI motor, it isn't and is considerable weaker.

manual trans

well, i know how to drive stick, but i just dont like the shifter on the mach 1 with the surved shaft upto the knob, so i wasthinking about getting a different shifter and just going with the manual trans. but i was going to up it to 3.73 gears, then i was going to upgrade to a TKO500 trans and a short throw shifter but ive never used a short throw shifter, is it the same gear patter, like is it the same setup or is it that gear setup like 1 forward 2back 3 forward or is it the same gear pattern like the H patter with 5th all the way top right

All a short throw shifter does is make the throws shorter and other small stuff for a better shifter or easier feel. It doesnt change the gear pattern,

And if you plan to go FI I recommend keeping your stock gears. Since you have a torquery power band it wont be neccesary to change them a it would if you went with a high revving N/A build.

And if you plan on swapping trannys Go ahead and go with a T56 like behind the Vipers, Camaros, and Cobras. You get an extra gear so if you do gow ith shorter gears it wont KILL mileage. I have 3.73s and with my T56 I still manage close to 30mpg.

Also T56 are cheap to rebuild strong using viper parts.

ive been thinking rather than put all that work and effort into the car, why not just buy a 2001 roush stage 3 mustang and put nitrous in it

Or an 03-04 Cobra and work off of that. But first things first, don't get in over your head with your first car. A 300+HP Mach 1 should be enough and then some for a new driver. On top of that, a 500HP motor won't be that reliable or practical for a DD.
