Question i need a radar detector!

what's the best one in your opinions??
i was looking at the bel vector 995 and the passport 8500. i dont really need the top of the line detector. just one that will at least avoid the cops and not start beeping once ive been caught lol

oh and one that uses a phone cord rather than a power cord. my car already has a phone cord installed in the visor

For the record, I don't like radar detectors, as I'm naturally concious of my surroundings and have never needed one.

i've heard very mixed reviews about radar detectors in general. From personal experience the cobra brand radar detectors work very well. Me and a few friends that i know have them and all 3 of us are pleased with their performance. Keep in mind though that like cliffy said it's best to be aware of your surroundings

Radar detectors are virtually worthless. They claim they can pick up every frequency the cops use? A few weeks after the detector hits the markets, the cops know the technology and change their frequencies. Furthermore, most departments are switching to "Lydar", and that's on/off so fast that you'll be tagged before your detector lights up.

Just keep your foot off that gas pedal a bit. You're not really getting anywhere THAT much faster in the end. Do the math, at 50mph, it would take what...an hour and ten minutes to travel 60 miles? At 60mph, it's an hour. Not really a HUGE time difference there, and if that's such a concern, leave ten minutes earlier.

But if your heart is set on getting one, the passport's are the best line out there.

OOOooh someones getting a little crabby. I agree with cliffy and dodger. Be aware of your surroundings(like all good drivers should be anyways) and stay off the gas. You wanna speed take it to the track. I'm not saying I'm a saint but I make sure theres practically nothing around and I know the road well.

VASCAR is used in conjunction with a radar gun unsually, and the radar gun is what's detected. VASCAR compares the average speed between two set points and the Police use this to "ticket" you. I recon these detector companies should go all out and develop a system that dectects Police vehicles in general, from their tracking device (all police cars have them), at least that way there's no confusion about what's detected and what's not, lol.
