If your budget allows it why not buy a new one? Then take care of it like it was your sister. That would go a long way.

My personal choice would be the new Mazda 3 with a 5-speed. They are fun little cars and get good mileage. If you need more space, go for the 6 or the Altima. The A4 is a decent car, but they burn more oil than I like to see(2-3 cups every 3000 miles is considered normal) and will most likely be more expensive down the road if you need to repair it. That's my 2 cents.

How used? Mileage? Budget? What condition? What trim? You left out a lot of vital information for any member to give you a valid response here.

On a sidenote, the Altima coupes are not that common and after seeing a couple, I must admit I rather like them. However, I am biased coming from a very Nissan-oriented family.

I think the A4 is what I would go for if it is in good condition. The Mazda 3 is an economy car where as the Audi A4 is luxury. I would always prefer to buy something a little older that is nicer. The Mazda 3/Altima will depreciate a bunch since it is new, where as the Audi already has. I am assuming the Audi is AWD though... right? Just my 2 cents.

Ideally you would be looking at the 2.0L TFSI Quattro. If you can get that, your golden. The power/torque curve on that motor is excellent and it really lends itself to cheap modifications that net REAL power ($600 chip = 50+hp, 60+ftlbs).
