gears grind in 2000 chevy tracker 4x4

Especially when it is raining or the humidity is high (weird) it is hard to get the transmission in reverse without the gears grinding. Also there is a squealing that sounds like a belt or pulley, but is directly related to moisture in the air and the grinding gears. Is there an adjustment for the clutch or some other relevent fix that a tranny dummy may be able to do himself?
