crankshaft sensor placement on Mazda 626

Trying to replace the crankshaft sensor that the garage screwed up when they replaced the waterpump. I looked in the Haynes manual and it's no help. I can see where the sensor plugs into the block, but I can't see where the sensor is placed. Do I need to take off the timing belt cover?
