Use some initiative and have a search on Autotrader or Ebay. You'll get a good idea of the price of any car on those 2 sites alone.

MK3 can be had anywhere from 5k to 15k depending on condition
MK4 can be had anywhere from 15k to 35k depending on condition

Of course the prices can go higher or lower.
