jeep t-case chain?

So I went to change the axle joint on my jeep and noticed a noise when I turned the wheel. The noise is coming from the transfer case and it sounds like the chain is really loose and the slack is hitting the case.
How do I go about this, is there a way of tightening the chain or is it probrably a junk sprocket? I've never been into a t-case before and would really appreciate any insight on what I'm getting into.

It's a 94 cherokee I6 with an automatic and command-trac transfer
