Too much drama and the owner of the forums was never around.

Actually, if you only had a clue...
Drama is one of the things that keeps a forum active. Drama only happens when people interact with one another. Of course, to have drama, personal interaction and open dialog, you can't have a forum that's controlled by the self appointed, politically correct thought police.
Certain people who fit that description, and who just happen to be moderators on this forum, will tell you that certain other members are the cause of the death of this forum. Their list will start with my name. In their mind they could never be to blame. But the fact of the matter is that this forum went down the drain after I became essentially inactive. But the fact that I pretty much gave up on the place and left is only a tiny part of the lack of participation.
No, the problem began with the weak minded yet power hungry people who were selected to be moderators. Then the problem expanded when those moderators took it upon themselves to quash the open communication that makes an online forum thrive. And you know who they are, you only have to honest with yourself. The really sad thing is that I predicted this would happen during the selection process, when I was still a mod. And because I was not willing to have my integrity diminished by being connected to them as a moderator, I took the necessary steps to relinquish my moderator status. But that's another topic for another day.
No, unfortunately at this point in time this forum is probably beyond saving. The owner doesn't give a damn about it, the moderators are generally AWOL and when they are here they're generally incompetent. And even the long time members, the guys who kept this place alive for years, have been run off. You, dvd, corbett and glagon included. Which is really a shame because this was and could still be the best car forum on the internet.
Put a fork in it... It's done.
ETA: Happy birthday to Godlaus!

Feck me if I don't feel like having a sniffle. My eyes were welling up with tears, such was the deep emotional strain as I read the heart felt, self deprecating autobiographical salute to VWHobo. God damn if that wasn't a fine speech. It should be appended to the US Constitution as compulsary reading.

Hobo, seriously? used to be one of the best Car Forums around?
This is where I learned about how to use a forum ( first one I have experience with) but I know it's been a really small place as long as I've been here. I still come back here and there to check out the spam/newyorker raping his MX5/no new posts.
It's been dead for years as far as I can see.

Don’t confuse biggest and best as being the same thing. Car-Forums.com has never (to the best of my knowledge) been the biggest (car) forum on the worldwide internetz, however at one time it was fairly busy and had a high quality and level of interaction.
The major turning point and downfall came when certain moderators decided that abusing their power to force political correctness along with restricting conversations outside of their tiny sphere of comfort and/or knowledge was more important than the desires of the membership at large. Then the people who make a forum thrive, the active members, began to leave in droves.
It’s gotten so bad now that even the damn spammers don’t hardly come around anymore.
But here’s a thought. There are lots, thousands maybe, of “members” who never post. Just about anytime you visit you’ll see several of them logged in. What are they doing? I think they’re using the member benefit known as private messaging for some nefarious purposes. My guess drug dealing, child pornography and terrorist plots among others.
At least someone is getting use out of the forum.

This is because I clear them out daily, for the most part. I'd say about 70% (conservatively IMHO) of the "membership" is spammers.

I just wandered over to the other carforums.com, where I had originally registered in '99. looks like most of us that were around back then moved on in about '02 or so (primarily to supercars.net). Some came here, and it looks like a lot of the same issues are over there as they are over here.
Hmm.

I do find it somewhat ironic that the person who started a thread about how dead this place is hasn't been back to comment in a week.
Liven things up. Don't do a hit and run. Bitch a little.
