oh, well, a crate motor is a motor shipped over... for instance, in japan, every 30000 miles, the people must either sell their car, or just their motor. the motor is then shipped over seas... often in a crate

I know about the Japs only being able to keep their cars for a maximum of three years...that sucks lol. Also, thanx for enlightening me as to that definition, it must be one of those US terms....like...sleeper, or, Rice lol

Crate engines can also refer to new engines, whether performance or stock, already assembled...delivered to your home or workplace in a crate. Stay away from Edelbrock crate engines with the aluminum heads....they blow head gaskets like crazy and Edelbrock likes to give you the big middle finger.

as far as any crate engine fitting in any car....no, unless you like a lot of custom work........you have to get a brand specific crate engine, if you have an old chevy, it has to be a chevy crate, old ford-ford crate.......as far as installing it, you need a long extension to get to the transmission bellhousing bolts, and a cherry picker(hoist) to get the old engine out and the new one in.
