New state law in New Jersey...

Just got back from a car show...I got pulled over while leaving and was given a ticket for "poor tire condition" . Unfortunately I don't know how much it is yet...but I guess I'll be finding out soon enough. Bottom line, if you live in Jersey...make sure your tires are in good shape...especially if you do lots of huge smokey burn-outs like me

How can they tell if your tires are in poor condition?

It's nothing new. There is a minimum amount of tread that is legal...and the easy way of checking is to insert a penny into the tread. If the tread is above Lincoln's head, the tire is legal. If the tread is shorter than the top of Lincoln's head, it's considered tire too worn to be used.

You can find a better description at: When Should I Replace My Tires?
