Yeah thats becuase they struck a deal with GM for some diesels in trade for their 3.5L V6. Want to know something funny, the most powerful GM N/A V-6 car is Honda powered. Heh, I love that. It's second overall most powerful V-6 in all thier lineup only losing to the S/C'ed Gen III 3.8 in the GTP (by 10hp). It even beats the S/C'ed Gen II 3.8 in the Impala/Monte Carlo.

I'm pretty sure the diesel engine in the current Accord is unique to Honda. At least, it is if you believe what Honda tell you.

I understand it actually uses lower compression than many diesels, in order to reduce 'knock'. I've yet to drive the diesel version, but from what has been said, it sounds more like a petrol engine than a diesel. Honest John isn't so sure, though:

my cavalier got around 45 MPG going to Florida last summer, but i was behind an 18 wheeler most of the time...

49hp version of the Geo metro that my friend had regularly got 50+ MPG and I guy I shoot with that got shipped to Kosovo has a Jetta wagon that gets 45+ when he drives it.

My little red Putt Putt (1L 3 cyl 5 spd Metro) Got about 50mpg. It was awesome on gas.

here is the full story. on a closed track, at 30 MPH, this Opel, stripped, modified, converted to chain drive, got 376.59 mpg, way back in the 1970's.
thats the best ever recorded, and its in the guiness book of world records.

Volkswagen have made a "Twindrive" Diesel Hybrid that achieves 113mpg, its a pretty swift car too, 1.5 litre diesel that produces 170bhp!
