Ford escort 93 trani problem

Drives ok for about 2 or 3 minuets. then after stoping (light, stop sign) when I push on the gas the engine reves low and the car rolls along very slowly. I have to push the gas pedle all the way down and after about 5 to 10 seconds the car reves up and slames into next gear. then this happens all over again till I get to the next gear. Also it flucuates in and out of gear. I have to continualy push more gas in or it will slip out of gear.
Is this the gas filter or the tansmition, and how much would it cost to fix.
Thanks

Well this will be a tough one as you don't do a very good job of explaining yourself. I'll assume you have a '93 Escort, 1.9L, auto trans. I'll also assume the engine is running okay because you don't state otherwise.

If I have made all the right assumptions the first thing to check, as with any auto trans problem, is the trans fluid level, fluid condition and filter condition. Then go from there.

So now how much does it cost to fix. Unfortunately my crystal ball isn't working today. Without knowing what's wrong how could you possibly expect someone to estimate the cost to repair. If it's just a clogged filter you're looking at under $30 to do it yourself, probably around $75 at a shop.

If you will try to provide some useful information I'll be more than happy to do the same.

AH

Sorry
Your right it is a 93', 9.1L and an auto transmition. I don't know that much about cars.
I will check the trans fluid level, fluid condition and filter condition( if I can find where the filter is). I heard that it could be the fuel filter and was just tring to figure out if it might be the trani or the fuel filter. It just seem that if if I push on the gas peddle no gas is getting to the engine. I push down and after a few seconds of a low sounding idle the engine reves quickly and then bangs into gear.
Thanks again

I'm still at a loss reading your description. There is a world of difference in how a fuel filter and a trans problem reacts to driver input. Is it possible you have two (or more) problems? Is your MIL on? Have you scanned for codes? These are all things that go into diagnosis and even more important when attempting to do it online. Honestly if you are unfamiliar with how to do these things it might be cheaper and certainly easier to take your car to a reputable technician.
