HID lights how to make bluer?

Hi.

I got some hid lights recently put in my car (03 cav) the thing is, that when you see them from far away they dont look bright blue like id like. they look kinda yellow

The bulb in the headlights are almost completely purple. The background in the headlights is white (that glassy stuff behind the bulb). The turn signals/low beams, are right beside them and they are yellow, and have a yellow background.

What can I do to make my headlights VERY blue, like I want? Are they yellow, because of the turn signals? (when u turn healights on the yellow lowbeams also turn on.)

WHAT DO I DO?

They're not HID headlights if they've got bulbs! HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlights are normally a factory option: they're difficult to fit and use a fair bit more power than bulbs.

Why do you want blue bulbs?

Ya, they drew me in too. I had some in my GTZ and they're waiting to go in my GA SE. Whenever I feel good enough to swap out the old stockers...

I had the same thing.. I wanted cooler headlights in my prizm. I went to a performance parts store in town and bought "Hyper Xenon" bulbs. 15.00 a set. Put them in for my highs/lows. The actual bulb looks blue. Close up they are pure white, and far away they look blue. I suggest something like that. Easy to install too!

HID's are bulbs, but they do not have a filiment inside, they use less power then standard bulbs, and they'll cost ya $250+ for crappy ones. You would know if you bought them, they come with their own transformer (ballast) for each bulb thats approx 2x3x1 inches that you have to mount somwhere. anything that you just swap in for stock is not hid's.

For hid bulbs the color is determined by the temprature of the kit you buy. 6000k would be more yellow, 8000K blue, and 10000k would be very purple. the higher the temprature theres more color output but less light output.

they are designed for projector housings, but not cheap visual upgrade ones. they'll melt... real projector housings have horizon cut off lines. a properly installed hid system when shined against a wall will show a straight line of light and dark with no fading. 90% of the color you see will be right at that line. if you put hid bulbs in stock headlight housings you'll be shining light everywhere, it'll look stupid, probably be illegal, you wont get the color shift and you'll probably piss a lot of people off. it'll be like driving with with your highbeams on all the time x 10

------------------------------
This is an improper HID setup, this is what it looks like if you just swap a civic's bulb with a H4 HID, on the left is the HID throwing light everywhere, very illegal, looks like sh*t, the right is the stock bulb

This is a proper HID setup running with 8000k bulbs. The horizon cut off line is perfect. It looks sweet. This is legal and wont piss people off.

Why do acura mdx's halogen bulbs have the glassy thing that makes it look like a xenon bulb? HID lamps are very bright. you want blue? Get a porsche 911.

discharge head lamps

Maxcess sell gas discharge head lamp kits, these are for off road use only, uk law says hid headlamps are only legal if fitted by the vehicle maufacturer, new mercs, bmw mini etc have them as an optional extra at about 800, maxcess sell the kits ,lamps, wiring and transformers for about 400

the glassy thing does not make a bulb Xenon. that's a different type of headlight - to be specific its called a Projector-Type Headlight. if you look up close at a car with xenon headlamps, you will see that there is no "glassy thing" you talk about...
