Well in the case that you did, and you missed the paragraph that explained the general purpose of it, let me attempt at explaining the gist of it.

I *think* that double clutching is a method used to downshift while cruising at high speeds, without wearing down expensive engine/transmission parts.
This comes in handy when you need to be in your power band (the point at which your engine can provide the most acceleration.)
Quick, but simple and hopefully useful.
